Water Rescue Training in Kirkpatrick Farm

Jul 7, 08:30 PM

On Monday July 7, shortly after 7:30 PM, if you were traveling down Destiny Drive, you may have seen the Arcola-Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department in force at the retention pond. We held a combined fire and EMS training drill that evening to refine our skills at rescuing a person in the water, and provided in-service training on a new automated external defibulator for all our EMS providers. We saw many concerned faces pass down the bike trail and after we told them what we were doing, they were quite grateful for us to take the opportunity to train for a rescue in their neighborhood. During the training exercise we tossed ropes to victims in the water, extended fire hoses filled with air, and built a make shift boat using fire hose filled with air and a ladder. We worked on important skills for rescuing victims and performing CPR and using the AED to bring someone back to life from a possible drowning. Thanks to all who came out. Hopefully we will only see you next year during our skills refresher. Stay safe.
