Overview

The Arcola – Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Dept provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to one of the largest areas of Loudoun County. Our three ambulances cover almost a 90 square mile area composed of both suburban subdivisions as well as rural farm land. We cover from the Fairfax County line to the east, the Prince William County line to the south, to Route 15 to the west and up to Leesburg and Ashburn to the north. We pride ourselves on providing the best pre-hospital emergency medical care in the area. Our call volume is growing rapidly; last year we ran over 1000 ambulance calls! We are the primary emergency medical service providers for the 20,000 residents of the Dulles South, Arcola, and Aldie areas. Additionaly we provide mutual aid services to Fairfax and Prince William Counties. We also are very active in the local communities doing many stand-bys at public events.

We transport patients to the closest appropriate medical facility; often to one of the three closest hospitals: Loudoun Hospital Center – Landsdowne Campus, Loudoun Hospital Center – Cornwall Campus, or INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital. When our patients require specialty care such as advanced trauma services we often utilize medevac helicopters such as AirCare or MedStar to transport the patients to a Level 1 Trauma Center such as INOVA Fairfax Hospital or MedStar Trauma Services at The Washington Hospital Center. We are fortunate in Loudoun County that both medevac helicopter services now have aircraft based out of the Leesburg Executive Airport for even more rapid transport.

EMS Mission

To fulfill our mission we currently operate 3 Advanced Life Support (ALS) equipped ambulances from 2 stations along with additional chase vehicles for seperate ALS provider responses. Our services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week thanks to the continous efforts of our volunteer and career staffing. We would not be able to provide this service without the assistance of our community and neighbors.

Volunteers

We are always looking for new volunteers to be Emergency Medical Technicians. We provide free training from EMT-Basic all the way up to the Paramedic level. No experience is needed; just an interest in helping your neighbors and community. If you are interested in becoming an EMT please contact us for further information and to start your new volunteer career helping people.
