On Thursday, September 29, 2011, members of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, Arcola Volunteer Fire Department, and the Loudoun County Fire-Rescue system came together to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new state-of-the-art facility: the Brambleton Public Safety Center. The center will be the future home of Fire and Rescue Station #9 and the Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management’s Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Public Safety Center site is located at 23675 Belmont Ridge Road on approximately five acres of land proffered from The Brambleton Group. The planned facility will house an engine company, advanced-life support ambulance and other essential emergency response units. In addition to emergency response apparatus, all services performed by the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office will be provided from this facility.

The staffing for Station 9 will consist of both career and volunteer members of the Loudoun County Fire-Rescue system. Career staff will provide emergency services from 6:00 a..m to 6:00 p.m, while the volunteer membership from the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department will be responsible for staffing from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Station Hall Rentals Available

For information and availability on renting the Arcola fire station banquet hall, please call 703-348-4317 and press option 4. The hall can accommodate up to 200 guests and is available daily until 10pm.

Child Car Seat Installation

As of June 1, 2011, the Loudoun County Office of Public Education is available to perform child car seat installations and inspections. For more information and scheduling an installation, please contact the the Public Education Manager, Joy Dotson, at 703-771-5551 or email Joy.Dotson@loudoun.gov.

Loudoun County Burn BAN now in effect (May 1, 2011)

For questions regarding the Loudoun County Burn Ban please see the following document from loudoun.gov (Open Burning Regulations)

A local member of Company 9 who lives near the address then advised that it was multiple structures involved and a second alarm assignment was issued.

Upon arrival the first units on scence made sure all residents were evacuated and safe. An Interior attack was initiated to comabt the fire until concerns of the brick facade possibly collapsing forced an evacuation of the interior units. At that time units continued to combat the fires in the 2 single family homes. All units were clear of the scene by 5pm. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Many of the homes in our area have fireplaces and wood stoves. While they can be a great source of home heating they can also be a danger if not properly inspected and maintained.

We ask that all homeowners take the time to perform basic stove and chimney maintenance and as needed to have their stove or chimney inspected. Resources like the Chimney Safety Institute of America has helpful guidelines, information, and resources for homeowners.

Remember many chimney fires actually start in the attic where they are not seen or heard until they are well developed. You also need to be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning that can occur from stoves and chimneys in need of maintenance or that have become blocked due to outside animals and debris.

Stay safe and warm this winter season.
